Did you know that the first record player was invented in the 19th century? Today, many people still collect and cherish old records. Vinyl sales have steadily been on the rise since 1993, and are showing no signs of slowing down. If you would like to shop for vinyl records, head to one of these Chicago record stores where you’ll find everything from Beethoven to Janis Joplin:
Dusty Groove began from humble beginnings in 1996 as an online store. Its instant popularity led to a brick and mortar location that only opened one Saturday afternoon a month. Today, visitors can shop for vinyl seven days a week. Dusty Groove is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and Rolling Stone calls it one of the country’s best record stores. The staff boasts extensive knowledge, and they add dozens of new titles every week.
Tone Deaf Records
When Tony realized that he was spending a massive amount of time in other people’s record stores, he decided to open his own. That’s how Tone Deaf Records was born. It’s a place where locals gather to talk about music while discovering new releases and the tunes of yesteryear. The varied selection includes soul, punk, and hip-hop.
At Dave’s Records, the motto is “No CDs. Never Had ‘Em. Never Will.” Dave began working in a record store 25 years ago, where he unpacked countless boxes of Thriller, Purple Rain, and Born in the USA. Today, he enjoys sharing his passion for music with others. On any given day, the selection features at least 40,000 titles. The shop carries all speeds, and genres include classical, reggae, and jazz.
Dave also buys unwanted records. He pays between 25 cents and $3.00, and if you’re trading for other titles, he’ll offer fifty percent more.
