Have you ever wondered what goes on behind-the-scenes at your favorite Chicago attractions?

If so, here are a few tours around that will allow you to gain a unique insight as well as access to areas usually off-limits to the general public:

Shedd Aquarium

With two million visitors every year, the Shedd Aquarium is one of the city’s most popular attractions. Established in 1930, it has a storied history and is home to scientists working to save endangered species and their habitats. The aquarium is recognized as a Smithsonian Institution and is also listed as a National Historic Landmark.

During the behind-the-scenes tour, you’ll see the aquarium from the perspective of the animal care specialists. The guide will lead you to the animal healthcare center where you’ll learn how innovative water quality practices keep the animals healthy.

Chicago Theatre

Constructed in the early 1920s, the grandeur of the Chicago Theatre usually leaves visitors breathless. It was the first lavish movie palace in the United States, and the grand lobby was modeled after the Royal Chapel at Versailles.

The Chicago Theatre Marquee Tour takes everyone on a history-filled journey from 1921 through the present day. During this adventure, you’ll learn more about the building’s history, stand on the theatre’s famous stage, and see well-known signatures on the dressing room walls.

Lincoln Park Zoo

The Lincoln Park Zoo strives to connect people with nature by providing a free wildlife experience. It opened in 1868, making it one of the oldest zoos in North America. The fascinating exhibits consist of landmark exteriors and high-tech homes, and combined, they feature over 1,000 animals.

Go behind-the-scenes during a Malott Family Penguin Encounter. You’ll experience the zoo from the inside with charming penguins waddling at your feet. The zookeeper will discuss their daily lives at the zoo as well as on the southern African Coast.
