Would you like to enjoy an entertaining evening of music? If so, Chicago’s performing arts companies offer everything from world-class opera to instrumental music.
Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Called one of the world’s greatest orchestras, the Chicago Symphony dates back to 1891. The musicians dedicate their lives to musical excellence, and they have won more Grammy Awards than any other ensemble. Piccolo player Jennifer Gunn was hailed for her “virtuosic poise” by the Chicago Tribune. She’s equally comfortable on the flute and also teaches master classes around the globe. You can watch Jennifer and the other musicians now through the end of June.
Winning praise from audiences and critics alike, the Chicago Philharmonic performs at venues across town. The company’s extensive repertoire ranges from Baroque compositions to the modern songs of today. It features nearly 200 musicians from the metropolitan area and is recognized as one of the country’s finest symphonic orchestras. The Chicago Philharmonic is also the official orchestra of the Joffrey Ballet, and it frequently partners with other national arts organizations. The exciting 2019/2020 season runs through May 23rd.
Lyric Opera of Chicago
Established in 1954, the Lyric Opera of Chicago is one of the world’s greatest opera companies. It features renowned conductors and international singers in both classic and lesser-known masterpieces. Lyric exists to provide a relevant cultural service to Chicago, and the 2019 season runs through the end of December.
