Whether you’re new to Chicago or looking to migrate to a different neighborhood, the West Loop is abundant in attractions that will scratch your creative itch near our apartments in Chicago. Here are three contemporary galleries in Chicago that are sure to entertain:

KAVI GUPTA

A well-known staple of Chicago, Kavi Gupta gallery has two West Loop locations on Washington Boulevard and Elizabeth Street. Current exhibitions at the Elizabeth Street location include Deborah Kass’s Painting and Sculpture and multimedia artist Michael Joo’s Sensory Meridian. Over on Washington Boulevard, abstract paintings by Young-Il Ahn mark the artist’s second solo show with Kavi Gupta.

Interactive 3D tours are available online, offering a unique, engaging solution to viewing sculpture on the internet. Additionally, the gallery is open for private viewings for parties of four or less via appointment.

WESTERN EXHIBITIONS

Located in the 1709 West Chicago Avenue building with several other galleries, Western Exhibitions has been showcasing artists of all disciplines since 2002. While director Scott Speh’s focus tends to gravitate towards artist’s books and paperwork, many of the featured artists toe the line between sculpture and drawing. Even the current exhibition, The Western Exhibitions Drawing Biennial, contains a sculpture by artist Joey Fauerso. In total, the biennial spotlights the work of over 20 different artists, so it’s basically an art buffet!

Western Exhibitions is open by appointment. If you’d rather view from the comfort of your own home, they also offer online video tours, and their website contains high-quality images of the show.

CARRIE SECRIST GALLERY

With a focus on emerging and mid-career artists, Carrie Secrist Gallery is another West Loop hub of contemporary art. You’ll find that the winter group show, Only Connect, features work of all mediums, including installations, drawings, sculptures, and more. Furthermore, this exhibit is curated around the simple epigraph of an E.M. Forster novel: “Only connect…”

The online viewing room includes high-resolution photos, videos, and information about the show and artists. You can also make an appointment to catch a peek of the art in person.

After getting your creative fill, round out the evening with wine delivery or curbside pickup from one of Chicago’s best wine stores. To check out more amenities or book a tour, contact us today. Catalyst would love to welcome you home to the West Loop!
