We are well on our way to summer! What could be better than spending an evening under the stars enjoying some great music. Every year, the City of Chicago sponsors a summer concert series at Millennium Park. You don’t have to go far from your luxury apartment at Catalyst to experience some of the best that Chicago’s music scene has to offer.
Running from June 6th through August 25th, the concerts will take place at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. This year there is a line up of 18 concerts planned, and each are free to all attendants!
The series starts off with Blonde Redhead, a band formed in New York and known for blending rock, pop, and electronica. They are joined by Ryley Walker, a singer/songwriter know for his prowess as a finger-style guitarist.
Other artists featured are Lee Fields, who offers James Brown-style funk, the Brazilian sounds of Rodrigo Amarante, and Layla McCalla, a Haitian-American who sings in 4 different languages.
If you want to check out some born and bred Chicago acts try local jazz legend, Kelan Phil Cochran, also known for his community involvement in addition to his musical chops. Marrow, a local indie rock band rocks the house, and Chicago group Ecos de Pacifico offers the sounds of the afro-columbian genre as well as traditional dance.
The Millennium Park Summer Concert Series is truly an event not to be missed. It showcases the unique culture of the city we call home through music and dance.
