Springtime in Chicago means cheering on the Cubs, attending fun music festivals, and the opening of the city’s beaches.
This year they open on May 26th, and each offers a variety of sandy adventures.
Beaches you don’t want to miss near Catalyst include:
North Avenue Beach
This is one of the city’s most popular beaches, and it features a unique beach house inspired by an ocean liner. Spanning 22,000 square feet, this blue and white structure includes upper decks and portholes that provide some of the best views in Chicago. North Avenue Beach is a popular place to kayak, rollerblade, and bike ride.
Located in the Uptown neighborhood, Montrose Beach offers a fenced-in dog park where canines enjoy running around and making new friends. Whether visitors want to sit under an umbrella, jet ski, or splash in the water, there is something for everyone. Just south of the beach is a natural area that attracts migratory birds during the spring and fall months.
Oak Street Beach
Sunbathers enjoy Oak Street Beach which is nestled in the Gold Coast neighborhood. For those who would rather enjoy some action, the beach offers bike and water sports rentals as well as volleyball tournaments.
Oakwood Beach opened in 2009, making it the city’s newest beach. It’s well-known for a mural by Jeff Zimmerman that covers the walkway to the comfort station. Many visitors are drawn here during the spring and summer months as it hosts many concerts and festivals.
